Summer Beauty – Tips for Looking Good in the Heat

Summer is a time of harsher climate, and the Australian summer is yet another level beyond normal. So it’s important to have proper skin-care during this intense season. We want you to look your best all year round. So we’ve prepared a short guide to keep up your beauty and skincare during the summer months.

Disclaimer: this advice is of a general nature. Please come see us in our clinics at Lismore, Ballina, or Byron Bay, or contact us online to get specific advice for your situation.

Stay Hydrated

This is popular advice, but it’s still often ignored. We all know we should drink more water. The adult woman should drink 2.7 litres every day (3.7 litres for men). You should consider drinking even more than this in summer, especially if you’re outside. If you struggle to get this much water, you might find getting a special 1-litre water bottle will help. Something with a cheerful splash of colour or a funny joke on the outside. Then

just make sure you empty it three times during the day.

Besides drinking plenty of water, you should also moisturise your skin. We always recommend moisturiser as a daily part of your skincare process. But it’s especially needed in summer. It’s not just from the outdoor heat. If you’re spending extra time inside in air-conditioning, this can dry out your skin faster than normal. So keep moisturizing twice a day to keep your skin clean and healthy.

Adjust Your Make-Up Routine

The make-up you wear in winter might not be suitable for summer. It’s important to let your skin breathe. Otherwise, your pores could start to clog up. Additionally, the extra heat and sweating can cause make-up to run. If you’re sweating far more than usual, it might not just be because of heat. You could be wearing too much makeup! A little less in summer can help limit the strain on your skin.

Please note we’re not saying to stop wearing make-up. We want you to feel beautiful and confident! Just find the right make-up for your skin in summer. It might take some experimentation to find a better balance for this season.

Sun Safety

Everyone loves a good tan. Just remember to always practise sun safety. It’s not worth risking damage to both your skin and health in the pursuit of beauty. Too much UV exposure can lead to skin cancer and many other dangers to your health. That’s why we at Medispa recommend wearing sunscreen every day. This is to help limit the UV damage to your skin. This is for the quality of your skin, as well as your health and safety. If you want to give your skin an extra glow, it’s always safer to invest in skin treatments instead of risking your health by too much sun exposure. Medispa offers a range of skin treatments, such as chemical peels and laser skin rejuvenation, to give colour and life to your skin. This is a much safer option.

Keep Up With Your Skin-Care

This is not the season to neglect your skin care. The harsher conditions of summer can make it risky to skip a day. You don’t have to change your daily routine for summer. Many people think you have to use extra moisturizer to compensate for the heat. But that’s not true. You simply need to be more consistent. Keep using your moisturizer and your cleanser through these months, especially if you’ve been advised to by one of our nurses or skin therapists. And be extra sure not to forget about it. If you’re uncertain about what skin products will best suit you, please see our blog on Summer Skin Care –  A Quick Guide to the Best Products. Otherwise please speak to our staff for personalized advice.

Embrace Your Summer Glow

Many of us are uncomfortable in the scorching summer heat. The high temperatures can make you feel sweaty and gross. It may seem easier to stay inside and avoid the heat. Yet the best way to enjoy summer is to get out there and experience it for yourself. Don’t spend the whole season hiding away from the harsher conditions. You can still be comfortable in your skin. You can be confident as you step outside and embrace the season. Just remember to take the right precautions to protect you skin. Respect the conditions of the Australian summer. And keep taking care of your skin every day. You’ll be fine!
