5 Tips for Glowing Summer Skin

When you imagine your perfect summer skin, we’re pretty sure it’s smooth and glowing. But skin that has been under cover all winter often needs a tune-up. To get an enviable glow, combine skincare, exercise, beauty sleep, and a skin treatment that deals with dullness.

Get that gorgeous glow

It’s no accident that vitamin A is the number one vitamin used topically to improve the texture and appearance of ageing skin. Vitamin A increases cell turnover so our skin looks more youthful. Our Nurses and Skin Therapists love our Ultra A Skin Perfecting Serum.

Invest in good quality sunblock

UVA rays play a major part in photo-damage and skin ageing, while UVB rays lead to premature skin ageing. Both can cause skin cancers. Even when it is cloudy outside, or you’re working indoors, you should always be wearing a sunscreen.

Ultraceuticals’ Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30 Hydrating is a broad-spectrum formula that moisturises and protects from both types of rays. Fast absorbing and non-whitening, you can wear it alone, or apply foundation on top. For oily skins, there is also a mattifying version. A pair of sunglasses and a wide brim hat can also help you look younger in five, or 10 years’ time.

Get your zzzzs

There’s a reason it’s called beauty sleep. Start skimping on sleep hours and skin dullness, as well as dark circles or bags are the result. “Skin makes new collagen while you sleep to help reduce fine lines.”

Your body also boosts blood flow while you’re sleeping so you should wake up to a healthy glow. Dr Rubin Naiman, who teaches sleep programs at luxury spas around the globe, suggests a bedtime ritual from preparing your room for rest, to listening to calming music can help you get better sleep. Don’t forget to switch off your devices, he says, and leave them in another room.

Work up a bit of sweat

Exercise increases blood flow to help nourish skin cells and carry away waste products. It’s also proven to reduce that skin enemy; stress. You may want to include a walk or run, a yoga or pilates class, a gym session, or a dance class in your regular routine. Anything that soothes or calms, such as listening to a relaxation or meditation app will also pay skin benefits.

Cheat a little

Sometimes we all need a little help with our skin. A LED Phototherapy treatment can help increase skin cell turnover and give you a radiant glow. Epiblading, a relatively straight-forward treatment involving the gentle ‘shaving’ of the the upper-most layer of dead skin cells, allows fresher, younger skin cells to be revealed. Or treat yourself to a Vita-Glow Facial with skin brighteners and exfoliants that work synergistically to restore skin luminosity and radiance.
