How To Get Back Into Routine For 2021
If you’re like us, you’re probably having a few adjustment pains coming back to work in 2021. After all, holidays are so relaxing! We just want to keep enjoying them! It can be difficult to get back into a routine at the start of the year. You may have already had a few chaotic days where things fell apart a little. Don’t worry. We’re going to show you the best way to start a new routine and form some healthy habits.
Make a Plan and Set Small Goals
To create a routine, you have to plan what you what to get accomplished. Write a list if you need to. Not only will this help you focus on your goal, but it will also help you realise what you don’t want to do. This will help you cut some things from your daily to-do list.
It’s also best to set small goals. We’re always tempted to set large goals and try to achieve them in a short amount of time. But studies show large goals are often overwhelming and can lead to giving up quickly. So for your daily goals, just think about what you need to do on that day alone. Maybe you can aim to have a habit within three weeks. But try not to aim too high too soon.
Regular Sleeping Times
If you’ve ever raised an infant, you know how a good sleeping routine can make everything easier. Well, the same is still true for adults. Regular sleeping times helps your body get into a natural pattern. This might mean you should set yourself a bedtime. Yes, we know you’re an adult and you can go to bed whenever you want! But it’s important to make sure you get enough sleep every day.
We all need six to eight hours of sleep. So figure out what time you need to wake up, then go to bed at least six to eight hours before then. We know it seems a little basic. But your sleep is so important to prioritize. Don’t make your day harder than it needs to be.
Get Your Morning Routine Right
The way you start the morning has a huge impact on the rest of the day. If it goes wrong, it can have a flow-on effect that unsettles everything else. So it’s important to do all that you can to prepare. Make sure you have enough time in the morning to get everything done. This might mean getting up earlier than you’re used to. You might also need to focus on just the essential things. If there’s housework to do, maybe leave that until you have more time. After all, how often do you skip breakfast if you’re running late? Just prioritize what you need to. We also recommend setting aside time in the morning to beautify yourself. Do whatever you need in order to feel confident in your appearance, whether that’s applying make-up, brushing your hair, or dressing up for yourself. Remember, it’s not about looking beautiful, so much as helping you feel beautiful. This will help you get your mindset right for the day ahead.
Put Unnecessary Tasks Aside
When you’re working on a major goal, it’s best to focus on it exclusively. Don’t take up a second goal no matter how tempting it is. You might be in the middle of renovating your home or considering starting a diet and weight-loss project. But if you’re having a hard time getting back into a routine, then just focus on that for the next few weeks. You can take on a second goal once you’ve got your healthy habits in place.
Forgive Yourself if you Don’t Get it Right Straight Away
If you’re returning to work in January, you might find it hard to stay on top of the housework as much as you did while on holiday. That’s ok! It can take practice to get your routine going. Don’t criticise yourself too harshly if you need to have an adjustment period. The important thing is to get your main goals accomplished. You can worry about the secondary goals later when you’ve got the hang of things. Many women feel like the world judges them if they don’t get everything right, and therefore they have to be in control of everything all the time. But that’s simply not true. It’s ok to make mistakes and struggle every once in a while.
You may have to accept that some jobs won’t get done on time because you’re focusing on other jobs that are more important right now. That doesn’t make you a failure. It just means you’re like everyone else.
Don’t Give Up
Habits take time to form. It’s natural to have relapses and setbacks while you’re working on them. The important thing is to not give up. One bad day does not ruin all the good days that came before it. So keep trying. You’ll get your routine in place and achieve your goals. We believe in you!
