One of the most popular treatments in our clinic is lip augmentation. In fact, for many of our younger clients, it’s a regular part of their beauty
regime. For others, it’s a way to restore the shape or volume of their lips that may have changed post-30.
They may want to redefine lips, boost volume, or even get lips that are softer
and smoother. Dermal fillers can both enhance a younger lip and help to restore a luscious lip. One of the best things about lip augmentation with dermal fillers is that you can get an instant, long-lasting look.
Lip fillers last for between 3 to 12 months, depending on many factors,
including the type of filler you choose.
Selecting a practitioner
This is, perhaps, the most important part of the whole procedure. Lips are a defining feature of the face, and there are many factors that make lips attractive including border, balance, volume and symmetry.
All of these need to be taken into account before a procedure to enhance lip
shape or volume. Your practitioner should be experienced in using dermal fillers for lips and have a good eye for symmetry.
She should also ask you about any medical conditions that may exclude you from getting fillers, listen to your concerns or wants, and tells you what to expect during and after the procedure.
She may even be able to show you other before and after photos so you can see what is possible for you.
Above all, your practitioner should be a trained, cosmetic nurse, or a medical
professional who has experience in cosmetic lip treatments.
What happens during treatment
In most treatments, a product called hyaluronic gel, that holds up to 1,000
times its weight in water, will be used to plump and shape lips.
The needles used for cosmetic injections have a super fine diameter, so they’re not very intrusive and far less painful than most other types of injections.
Your practitioner will give you small ice packs to use on the treatment area and, in some cases, a numbing agent can be applied. All our dermal filler products contain a local anaesthetic.
What to expect post treatment
While you’ll love the results you can get with a professional treatment, your
lips may look slightly swollen for up to 48 hours after. For some clients, tenderness or bruising at the injection site may still be slightly present for up to 14 days.
But this is a walk-in, walk-out procedure, meaning you will be able to return to
work, or your normal schedule straight away. That said, alcohol, or exercise,
isn’t recommended for the first 24 hours.
The only other side effect of this procedure is gorgeous, kissable lips!
